Open House
Open House will held on Thursday, September 16 at 6 pm. Open House is a great time to visit your child’s school, teachers, and administrators to get a closer, more in-depth look at the school’s instructional programs. The key to a child’s success goes beyond the classroom; it includes the critical element of parent involvement. We encourage you to take advantage of this important opportunity.
Miami Children's Expo
The Miami Children’s Expo will be held on Saturday, October 30th at the Miami-Dade Fair Expo Center – Fuchs Pavilion from 10am – 4pm. We offer FREE admission and free parking with special hourly $100 gift card drawings for all pre-registered attendees.
The goal of the Expo is to provide an informational event for parents that also includes fun and educationally interactive things for the kids to do. Attendees include pregnant moms up to parents with kids in elementary school. The event is being marketed through local parenting/family magazines and directories, online calendars, promotional flyers distributed at local retail outlets, social media, direct mail invitations, radio, and much more! Winn-Dixie is the Title Sponsor of the event and they bring in their national partners to include Johnson & Johnson, Gerber, Proctor & Gamble, Kimberly Clark and Sprout! We also produce Children’s Expos in Orlando and Tampa.
Winn-Dixie would like to award the local elementary school in Miami-Dade County with the highest attendance at the Expo a gift card for $5,000 that can be used in their stores for school supplies. I have attached a flyer describing the promotion. Is this something we may be able to promote through The Parent Academy? I have sent the information over to Lisa Thurman to see how we could get the information out to the elementary school principals but wanted to check with you to see if there were any opportunities to get the word out to the parents. We would love to have Miami-Dade Public Schools involved in this free annual community event and can provide you with complimentary booth space and other ways we can promote your programs.

Thursday, August 5, 2010
A.D. Barnes Park – Recreation Room by the Pool
3401 SW 72 Avenue
10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Tuesday, August 17, 2010
Miami Springs Recreation Center
1401 Westward Drive
10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Residents must be at each event no later than 1 p.m. to be processed and receive necessary vaccinations.
Parents and legal guardians must be present when vaccinations are administered. In addition, parents are advised to bring their child’s immunization records. Children entering Miami-Dade County Schools for the first time must have their School Entry Health Exam done before getting their vaccines.
“It’s important for children to have their necessary immunizations before they start the school year or day care to prevent any illnesses,” said Commissioner Sosa. “This event is open to all residents and will cost nothing to families in order to fully promote the health and well-being of our local children.”

We have Only Days to Act!
| This afternoon, President of the Florida PTA, Karin Brown, had an opportunity to speak with Governor Crist. He advised that he is still considering all sides of SB6. He claims to want to make the best decision for children, teachers and education in the State of Florida. Governor Crist mentioned to Karin Brown that, while he has heard overwhelming outcry from the teachers, he would like to hear more from the parents, students and community partners within our school community. THE GOVERNOR WILL SIGN, ONE WAY OR THE OTHER, BY FRIDAY. We will continue to fight. Once again, please contact the Governor of Florida, and ask him to VETO this legislation. Please forward this email on to your neighbors, your friends, your relatives, and even speak to companies with which you do business. Ask them to take just a moment and send an email, or make a call. We know we can make a difference! Let’s flood the Governor’s email, voice mail and fax machine, beginning right NOW!
